Abstract

The midnight sun and the northern light perform their displays in the setting of the polar sky. The midnight sun goes through a monotonous daily, predictable motion guided by the Earth’s rotation about its own axis and its revolution around the Sun. The oblique position of the Earth’s rotational axis is the reason why the Sun, in a few hectic summer months, never dips below the horizon in latitudes north of the Arctic Circle.
