Abstract
The goal of this contribution is to show how the peak-feature model of intonational phonology [Ladd, in press] can be applied to issues of overall slope and declination dealt with elsewhere in this volume, in particular by Gårding, Thorsen, and Vaissière. Unlike these other works, which treat overall slope in terms of grid lines or abstract contour shapes, the approach taken here sees overall slope, in effect, as a by-product of the linguistic specification of accent peaks. This specification is in terms of features that interact to determine peak scaling.
