Abstract
The factors normally thought to be responsible for controlling aldosterone secretion are angiotensin II (A II), potassium, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), and sodium. There is, however, good evidence that there are almost certainly other modulators [12]. Contenders for this role include angiotensin III, α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), β-lipotropin, N-terminal pro-opiocortin (N-POC), serotonin, 5-methoxytryptamine, dopamine, somatostatin, histamine, prostaglandins, growth hormone, and an as yet unidentified glycopeptide aldosterone-stimulating factor. The purpose of this paper is to review some recent advances in this area.
