Abstract
Most patients who suffer from angina pectoris resistant to medical therapy experience dramatic relief of pain following bypass surgery. Since the introduction of this spectacular method of treatment into cardiological practice, unacceptably severe angina has been considered an indisputable indication for coronary bypass surgery. Although the definition of what is “unacceptable” angina may vary considerably with local medical practices, coronary angiography is the only investigation needed to assess whether bypass operation has a reasonable chance of curing the symptom.
