Blue-Light Effects in Phytochrome-Mediated Responses

  • Chapter
Photomorphogenesis

Part of the book series: Encyclopedia of Plant Physiology ((PLANT,volume 16))

Abstract

Plant growth and development depend on the light environment. Most of the photomorphogenic effects are mediated, according to our present knowledge, by either phytochrome or cryptochrome as the photoreceptor pigment. In a few instances (e.g., plastidogenesis) chlorophyll contributes to light perception in photomorphogenesis.
