Three-Photon Resonant Parametric Processes

Abstract

This chapter deals with three-photon parametric processes in which the pumping frequency or one of the generated frequencies are in resonance with the transition frequency of the electron or vibrational levels. It is discussed to what extent it is feasible to use such processes in gases to produce coherent radiation at VUV and molecular vibration frequencies. Spatial modulation of the electrostatic field applied to the medium is shown to lead to a considerable improvement in the parametric conversion efficiency.
