Abstract

Since the successful use of contrast media (CMs) to enhance the visibility of certain brain lesions in the first clinical computed tomography (CT) scans, contrast enhancement (CE) has become a standard procedure in most CT examinations. For many years CE was practiced with no systematic approach to optimize the result. When fast, dynamic CT equipment became available, more attention was paid to the dynamics of CE. Few approaches toward the logical use of CMs in CT have been presented [3, 5, 12], largeley because of insufficient knowledge and lack of control of the pharmacokinetics of CMs after intravenous injection.
