Zusammenfassung

Die übliche Auffassung über die Bedeutung des Wassergehaltes der Hornschicht für das Aussehen der Haut geht auf Blank (1953) zurück. Dieser Autor fand, daß der Wassergehalt der Hornschicht normalerweise 10–20% beträgt. Wenn er unter 10% absinkt, soll die Haut ein trockenes und sprödes Aussehen erlangen. Unterstützt wurde die Auffassung, daß dem Wasser die überragende Bedeutung für das Aussehen der Haut zukomme, durch die These von Kligman (1963), daß die Hautoberflächenlipide keine wesentliche Bedeutung für das Aussehen der Hornschicht hätten.
