Abstract
There have been previous reports on the incidence of psychopathology and cognitive disorder following open-heart surgery, but to date little is known about the quality of life patients enjoy in the postoperative period. This paper explores the quality of life during the 5-year period following surgery and examines areas of occupational adjustment, leisure time interests, socialization, activity level, sexual activity, and family adjustment. The patients studied have been interviewed at several points along the 5-year period.
