Immunologic Findings in Myocardial Diseases, with Particular Reference to Myocarditis

  • Chapter
Myocarditis Cardiomyopathy

Part of the book series: International Boehringer Mannheim Symposia ((BOEHRINGER))

Abstract

According to a definition recently published in the British Heart Journal, cardiomyopathies are diseases of the heart muscle of unknown origin [12]. Those diseases in which the underlying dysfunction is the heart muscle cell itself can be termed primary myocardial diseases. However, disorders of the immune system in connection with cardiomyopathies are not consistent in the clarity of indications of etiology and pathogenesis; these will be described briefly in this chapter (see Table 1).
