Abstract
Experience of therapeutic peritoneal lavage (TPL) in Leeds extends to only ten cases. It is possible, therefore, to draw only speculative conclusions and more definite data must await controlled clinical trials. The anecdotal impressions from the literature, my own experience and results from the two American trials which have been published so far (5, 6) all suggest that TPL is an effective form of treatment for the early stages of acute pancreatitis.
