Abstract
As numerous authors explain in the recent literature (Barber 1978; Blanco et al. 1977; Czernobilsky 1977; Fox and Langley 1976; Gati et al. 1978; Hart 1977; Honoré 1980; Itskovitz et al. 1979; Julian and Woodruff 1972; Katzenstein et al. 1978; Klemi and Nevalainen 1978; Malkasian et al. 1975; Osadchaia 1980; Rini and Woodruff 1975; Russell and Merkur 1979; Ueda et al. 1980), and as several of the contributors to these proceedings have restated, borderline malignant epithelial tumors of the ovary may often prove difficult to recognize and diagnose histologically, since they show many but not all morphological features of malignancy. The recognition of these features is an exercise in subjective analysis, the success of which depends on the experience, knowledge, skill, diligence, and perhaps alertness of the examiner.
