Abstract
The purpose of intracoronary thrombolysis in patients with evolving myocardial infarction is to reopen the occluded coronary artery and to prevent the consequences of continued myocardial ischemia. Myocardial necrosis may begin after only 20 min coronary artery occlusion. In cases of severe ischemia the process of necrosis may be completed in 3–4 h. The earliest possible restoration of flow in the occluded artery is therefore of critical importance.
