Abstract
Between October 1977 and May 18, 1981, 152 attempts at transluminal coronary angioplasty (TCA) were carried out at our institution. The results of these procedures are the subject of this presentation. It should be emphasized that patients were not selected on the basis of findings which suggested a high probability of success. Only a number of patients with fluoroscopically visible calcifications in the region of the stenosis were excluded. The total also includes those cases in which TCA had been planned but in whom the indication was no longer evident at routine angiography immediately before the procedure. An example of this would be progression of coronary disease with vessel occlusion following the original angiogram or a confirmed proclivity toward marked vasospasm.
