Abstract
The chromaffin (paraganglionic) cell is the most conspicuous cell of the paraganglionic tissue (Figs. 1–3). The round, oval or polygonal cells store catecholamines and contain specific electron-dense granules. Paraganglia also have been called glomera or glomic organs. From these considerations the terms listed in Table 4, which have been used as synonyms to designate paraganglionic cells, become understandable. The terms paraganglionic cell and chromaffin cell will be used in the following sections.
