The Hepatitis Risk After Operations Using Extracorporeal Circulation (ECC) — A Prospective Study

Abstract

Although diagnostic tools have been improved very much during recent Years, hepatitis is a serious postoperative problem after open-heart procedures using extracorporeal circulation (1–4). To reduce the risk of hepatitis after cardiac surgery, we have chosen a specific program of blood donor selection, of repeated donor control, and a differentiated investigation set-up before transfusion of any donated blood.
