Abstract
This panel discussion concentrated first on Dr. Bussmann’s presentation on the role of nitroglycerin in acute myocardial infarction where he demonstrated a reduction of infarct size and of acute life-threatening arrhythmias, which, in the feeling of Dr. Swan (Chairman), would suggest the use of nitroglycerin in almost all patients routinely during the acute phase of myocardial infarction. This opinion was contradicted especially by Dr. Schröder who, based on his experience, advocated a more flexible use in order not to impair ischemia in some patients.
