Left Ventricular Function and Regional Wall Motion After Intracoronary Application of Nitrates in Coronary Heart Disease

Abstract

The hemodynamic changes which follow systemic application of nitrates are the result of changes at three different points — in the coronary arteries, the myocardium and the peripheral vessels. In order to differentiate between the effects on the heart and those on the peripheral vessels, we administered isosorbide dinitrate directly in the coronary arteries and in the systemic circulation and studied changes in regional wall motion, contractility, and pump function under resting conditions.
