Microscopic Pathology of Heart Muscle and of Coronary Arteries in Arterial Hypertension

The Heart in Hypertension

Part of the book series: International Boehringer Mannheim Symposia ((BOEHRINGER))

Abstract

In hypertension the heart develops structural changes at the macroscopic, the light microscopic, and the ultrastructural level. I will try to give you a brief report concerning the morphology of heart muscle fibers and its muscle nuclei, the adrenergic nerves and the blood supply of the myocardium in response to arterial hypertension. Additionally, I shall discuss whether structural adaptive processes in the myocardium of laboratory animals are the same ones as in human pathology.
