Pulse Acousto-Optic Modulator Using a Nematic Liquid Crystal in Its Isotropic Phase
Part of the Springer Series in Chemical Physics book series (CHEMICAL, volume 11)
In simple liquids the birefringence induced by ultrasonic waves is quite small. However, the birefringence can be considerably higher for liquids exhibiting a strong local order such as liquid crystals in their isotropic phase.
