Immunologic Studies of Endomyocardial Biopsies

  • Conference paper

Abstract

The heart is the site of immunologic reactions as are other organs in the body [2, 5, 9, 12]. Intrinsic antigens within the heart consist of sarcolemmal membrane, cytoplasmic and nuclear constituents like heart valves, serosal tissue of the pericardium and blood vessels. The heart may also become the site of extrinsic antigenic deposition and through its vascular system participate in general allergic reactions.
