Abstract
Rather than classifying congenital abnormalities according to the total entity, a segmental approach is preferred in which the heart is divided into its three major anatomical segments: the atria, the ventricles, and the great arteries [295]. The atrial and ventricular chambers are then located, the relationship of the great arteries determined, and finally, the connections and relations of the cardiac segments to one another are defined.
