Abstract

Every age has its own medicine and its own particular methods of treatment. The rise of chemistry which began in this century and has intensified in recent decades has led to profound changes in medical therapeutics. The development of ever newer drugs and modes of administration has brought continuous improvements. This applies to local therapy as well, for which a number of highly effective and convenient-to-use drugs are now available in vehicles appropriate for specific lesions. The number of drugs is already so large that it can scarcely be conceived. Often several drugs, usually supplied in various preparations, are offered for the same indications.
