A nationwide screening program for hypothyroidism is run in Denmark by measuring TSH from PKU cards of all newborns (N.J. Brandt 1978, personal communication). Until autumn 1978 among 55 000 newborns screened 12 cases of congenital hypothyroidism were detected. This frequency agrees well with data of other groups in Europe. The design of the study is almost identical to the scheme of Illig (see p. 179 ff).
