Abstract

In the first experiment the question is presented together with the propositions. The time necessary to produce the answer is measured. In Experiment II the item is divided into two parts. First, the two propositions are presented. The time necessary to understand the propositions is measured; this time will be referred to as the inspection time (RTi). Then the question is presented and the time necessary to answer the question is measured; this time will be called the answering time (RTa). Experiments III and IV are similar to the previous one: both inspection time and answering time are measured. The difference is that there is a blank interval of 4 and 8 s, respectively, after the inspection time before the question is presented.
