The Reactions of Metal Atoms

Abstract

Metal atoms are the ultimate coordinately and electronically unsaturated neutral species and owe much of their high reactivity to this unsaturation and the ready availability of their valence electrons and orbitals. Not surprisingly, their reactions — certainly their initial reactions — are ones which increase the atoms’ electron and coordination numbers.
