Abstract

It is now possible to use vapours such as atoms of transition metals1, 2), carbon atoms3) and molecules which may only exist in the gaseous state, e.g. SiF2 4), Cr-Fe5), or TiO6) as routine reagents in synthesis1, 2), catalysis6), or other reactivity studies7). Recent research has already shown that interesting and novel compounds such as (Cod)2Fe8), (Bd)3Mo9), (PhH)2Ti10), and C6F5PdBr11), which have not been prepared by conventional methods may be readily made by vapour synthesis.
