Abstract
The present paper is a continuation of earlier works by the same author /1/, /2/, /3/ dealing with the problems of rarefied gas flows in the presence of phenomena of condensation and evaporation at boundaries of the flow region, being in the first place, an extension of the paper /3/ concerning steady heat and mass transfer in the process of condensation and evaporation of pure vapor on plane surfaces of liquids bounding the vapor area. Such a system is frequently observed in various technical installations, e.g. vacuum condensate extraction pumps. The analysis of the non-steady problem performed in this work has made it possible to study the response of the system with discrete change of parameters on one of the surfaces bounding the vapor area, and to estimate the rise time of the mass flux between surfaces in particular, as well as to study the change in distribution of temperature and density in time.
