Zusammenfassung

Definitionen und Merkmale neoplastischer Prozesse: Als »Tumor« im weiteren Sinn bezeichnen wir eine umschriebene Volumenzunahme des Gewebes, gleichgültig, wie diese zustande kam. »Tumor« wird aber im medizinischen Sprachgebrauch vorwiegend einer »Geschwulst« gleichgesetzt. Nach der üblichen Definition (modifiziert nach Willis) ist eine Geschwulst (Tumor i. e. S.) »eine abnorme, umschriebene Gewebemasse, deren Wachstum, wenigstens zeitweise, progressiv verläuft, überschießt, mit dem normalen Gewebe nicht koordiniert ist und auch dann anhält, wenn der auslösende Reiz anscheinend nicht mehr wirksam ist.«
