Abstract
The various medical, hygienic and technical requirements to be met within Intensive Medicine call for area facilities which must primarily be suited to each particular medical objective of the Intensive Care Unit. It has been the aim of the author to develop model concepts for designing ICU’s, paying specific attention to the above mentioned requirements. Thus, it is logical that we find the surgical ICU’s located in the vicinity of the operating area, while the internal standard ICU is or rather should be situated near a medical clinic and the central laboratory area.
