Zusammenfassung
Pfeiffer und Issaeff beobachteten 1894, daß Cholera-Vibrionen zerfallen, wenn sie in die Peritonealhöhle zuvor immunisierter Meerschweinchen injiziert werden. Bordet wies etwas später nach, daß Mikroorganismen in Minuten lysiert werden, wenn ihnen in vitro Serum immunisierter Tiere zugesetzt wird; wurde das Serum jedoch für 30 Minuten auf 56°C erhitzt oder einfach für einige Tage stehen gelassen, so verlor es seine lytische Aktivität, obwohl der Antikörper noch vorhanden war. Zugabe von frischem Serum von nichtimmunisierten Tieren stellte die lytische Aktivität wieder her. Mit diesem Experiment konnte daher gezeigt werden, daß die bakteriolytische Aktivität des Serums immunisierter Tiere von zwei Faktoren abhing: einem (dem Antikörper) spezifischen und thermostabilen und einem anderen, der unspezifisch und thermolabil ist und der sowohl in Immun- als auch in Normalseren vorkommt.
