Abstract
From his study of the functional morphology and structure of bone, Roux concluded that the latter is constructed with the greatest economy of materials. By this means the human locomotor system complies with the same fundamental demands as mechanical techniques. Apart from financial economy, lightness of construction of machines presents an advantage: the reduction of weight lessens the expenditure of energy necessary to overcome the weight of the machine, the forces of inertia and friction. This energy is lost to the efficiency of the machine.
