Abstract

Table 10.1 shows how diverse are the processes involved in plant pathogenesis. With a cereal rust disease, a plant is resistant if the host cell nucleus dies after inoculation, but susceptible if it lives, at least for a while. With a soft rot disease, a plant is susceptible if the host cell nucleus dies after inoculation, but resistant if it lives.
