Immunologic Changes in Regional Lymph Nodes of Melanoma Patients

Part of the book series: Chirurgisches Forum ’78 für experimentelle und klinische Forschung ((FORUMBAND,volume 78))

Abstract

Until today no clear guidelines for surgical treatment of regional lymph nodes that are draining carcinomas are given. This is due to the controversy concerning the immunologic role of the draining lymph nodes in patients suffering from such malignancies. In an attempt to correlate histologic changes with humoral and cellular immunologic parameters, draining and thus “involved” lymph nodes of 17 patients with stage I, II, and III melanomas as well as some contralateral “uninvolved” lymph nodes were studied and their functions compared with those of peripheral lymphocytes.
