Abstract
Herring bodies are dilatations of neurosecretory axons that have been well characterized ultrastructurally (for review see DELLMANN, 1973). Their formation and possible involution has been studied (PICKERING et al., 1975) and is more subject to hypothetical speculations. This study of the sequence of ultrastructural changes occurring during experimentally induced formation of axon dilatations, is the first step in elucidating dynamic changes in Herring bodies.
