Abstract
Surely, we scientists take ourselves very much too seriously. The fine nuances of life often escape our attention. Indeed, frequently we don’t really know how to live to the fullest extent whilst thinking that our every minute’s contribution is so valuable that the world cannot possibly live without it. Only as we grow older and become more reflective, as we begin better-to appreciate the historical aspects of human advances, only then do we realize that our days have been spent very much too hurriedly. As one says in America, ›We grow old too fast, and smart too late.‹
