Experimental Cerebral Ischemia by Arachidonic Acid-Induced Platelet Emboli

  • Conference paper
Book cover Brain and Heart Infarct

Abstract

A model of cerebral Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIAs) in rabbits has been previously proposed (1) in which cerebral embolization was produced by inducing autologous platelet microemboli by means of selective ADP infusion in the carotid artery. Transient focal ischemia resulted, by a combination of both temporary arterial occlusion and reduction of systemic arterial blood pressure which regularly occur during the initial phase of ADP infusion (2).
