The Significance of Chromosomal Findings for the Differentiation between Lymphoma and Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Haematology and Blood Transfusion / Hämatologie und Bluttransfusion ((HAEMATOLOGY,volume 20))

Abstract

In lymphoid neoplasia, it has been difficult to distinguish between contaminating lymphoblastoid cells and truly malignant lymphoma cells. Certain cellular markers have been applied for this differentiation. Among these, cytogenetic findings like aneuploidy and marker chromosomes, as well as tumorgenicity in immunodeficient hosts have been proven to be the most valid parameters. This paper deals mainly with the role of cytogenetic markers.
