Rare Earth-Boron Phase Equilibria

  • Chapter
Boron and Refractory Borides

Abstract

Rare earth (RE) borides are fascinating high-temperature materials with extremely interesting chemical and structural properties. In spite of this, detailed studies of RE-B systems are rare. As a result, many fundamental as well as potentially useful properties of these materials have not been examined. One reason for this is that a solid coherent base of phase equilibria information has been lacking, but is needed for preparing and understanding the behavior of these materials during studies of chemical, physical, and/or mechanical properties.
