Paleogeographic Significance of Rhodolites: Some Examples from the Miocene of France and Turkey

Abstract

Bosselini and Ginsburg (1971) have defined the term rhodolite: it consists of algal nodules, principally composed of red algae (Corallinaceae). These structures are frequent in the marine Neogene formations. We have tried to determine the environmental conditions of the deposits for a few examples mainly located in France (Aquitaine and Corsica) and in Turkey.
