Zusammenfassung

Die Neuausgabe des “Index Herbariorum” enthält in einem “Index to important collections” Hinweise über den Verbleib bedeutender Farnsammlungen, da sich diese Sammlungen meist nicht am Ort der ehemaligen Tätigkeit der betreffenden Wissenschaftler befinden. Z.B. ist das Herbar von H. Christ heute in Paris im National Museum, Abteilung Phanero-gamen, das Herbar von C. CHRISTENSEN im Britischen Museum, das Farnherbar von COPELAND in Ann Arbor. In dem bibliographischen Handbuch von V. GRUMMANN finden sich auch neue Daten von Pteridologen, z.B. ASCHERSON; A. BRAUN; W. HERTER; H. KARSTEN; KUHN; G. KUNZE; LINK; LUERSSEN; MILDE; NEES VON ESENBECK; REIMERS, A.W. Roth und Kurt Sprengel. Eine Übersicht der Beiträge zur Systematik der Farnpflanzen durch COPELAND gab Holttum (12). COPELAND studierte an der privaten Stanford University die Farnpflanzen bei D.H. CAMPBELL. Diese Universität besitzt heute über den Verfasser der “Flora Balearica”, H. KNOCHE (Reprint 1974), den privaten wissenschaftlichen Handapparat von ADOLF ENGLER mit 25000 Einzelposten (STAFLEU). Die Fortschritte der Pteri-dologie in den letzten 25 Jahren in Nordamerika (Pteridology 1947–1972) hat WAGNER (3) dargestellt. Die Unterabschnitte der wichtigsten Arbeitsrichtungen lauten: Biology of the Gametophyte, Biology of the Sporophyte, Cytogenetics, Systematics and Taxonomy.
