Abstract
Plastocyanin is a copper protein which was first discovered in the green alga, Chlorella ellipsoidea (Katoh, 1960). It is now established that the protein functions as an electron carrier between photosystems I and II of chloroplasts. The protein was designated plastocyanin because of its localization in chloroplasts and its blue color in the oxidized form (Katoh and Takamiya, 1961).
