Abstract

The aim of tomography is to display several overlapping and indistinct layers selectively and distinctly. A more distinct picture is obtained by the choice of a sectioning plane. The classical principle of tomography operates with a mechanical device, with the help of which certain points of the object are always projected to the same position on the film. The simultaneous movement of tube and film makes it possible to display a certain layer distinctly, and to eliminate other layers by blotting these out (4, 36). In axial transverse tomography the sectioning plane is chosen so that all other layers are completely eliminated. Therefore, very few distorting shadows appear (Fig. 7).
