Abstract

Without doubt the posterior fossa represents the most difficult region of the cranial cavity for the CT diagnosis. On the one hand, numerous bony structures impair the quality of CT scans in the cerebellar and pontine region, but on the other hand the percentage of tumors with brain density is extremely high. In the present study of 196 tumors in the posterior fossa, 50 (25.5%) were isodense in the plain scan compared with only 15% in our overall tumor series (see Table 1).
