The Effect of Bencyclane on the K+- and Ca++-Induced Pial Arterial Constriction

  • Chapter
Ionic Actions on Vascular Smooth Muscle

Abstract

By using the technique of perivascular microperfusion (14), we studied which effect varied K+ and Ca++ concentrations in mock CSF with and without Bencyclane take on pial arteries. We used 21 anaesthetized cats for our experiments. We observed that constrictions of pial arteries that are induced by high K+ (3, 12, 18), Ca++ (9, 10, 18), and by mock CSF free of K+ (11, 14) can be inhibited by an additional application of Bencyclane.
