Abstract
Our aim is to discuss certain portions of so-called Littlewood-Paley (= LP) theory purely as a part of abstract harmonic analysis. To give a preliminary idea of what this involves we will in this section describe the appropriate central results for the case in which the underlying group is the circle group T: this is the original setting for the theory.
