Abstract

Two kinds of changes in the cell surface membrane that have been related to growth control processes are: (1) changes measured by increased cell agglutinability with concanavalin A (con A) and certain other plant lectins (reviewed by BURGER, 1973), and (2) changes in the uptake of certain nutrients and/or growth factors (for example, PARDEE, 1964, 1971; WALLACH, 1968; CUNNINGHAM, PARDEE, 1969; SEFTON, RUBIN, 1971; HOLLEY, 1972, 1974).
