Abstract
Deformation processes leave imprints in the submicroscopic structure of minerals which are indicative of the geological history of the rocks. Although we do not yet understand quantitatively the influences of such parameters as temperature, strain, strain rate and seven have difficulty in identifying deformation mechanisms in the most common rock-forming minerals, we are able to describe Fig. 1. Tectonic sketch of the Bergell Alps indicating metamorphic zonation and specimen location and classify observations and try to interpret changes in the microstructure as the result of varying physical conditions using analogies to observations in metals.
