Origin of the (c) Domains of Anorthite

  • Chapter
Electron Microscopy in Mineralogy

Abstract

The structural changes in calcic plagioclases giving rise to the (c) domains are not yet well understood (see Heuer and Nord, Chapter 5.1 of this volume). In this paper, we first illustrate the nature of the problem, particularly the effect of temperature on domain morphology, and then propose a phenomenological model which attempts to integrate these observations with earlier electron microscopical and X-ray diffraction results.
