Patch Testing

Abstract

Selected substances are diluted to the correct concentration by incorporating them in a suitable vehicle. This preparation is applied to the test unit, which is made up of a filter-paper disk covered by an impermeable sheet. The test unit is applied to the skin and fixed in position with occlusive adhesive tape, which is left in situ for 2 days; it is then removed and the first reading is recorded.
